How to start your journey with us
The first thing to do is get in touch. You can do this here.
After you fill in the form, one of our counsellors will be in touch, usually within a week, via an introductory call to ensure Avenue Counselling is the right support for your family, child or young person. This will last around 15 minutes. If we can’t help you at Avenue Counselling, we’ll point you in the direction for support that suits your needs.
If we feel that we can offer support, we will arrange a face-to-face counselling assessment with your child, young person or family (whoever the counselling is for). This will last approximately 50 minutes. This assessment is conducted by your counsellor and helps to better understand how we can help, understand individual needs; answer any questions and discuss the goals the person/people who want the counselling hope to achieve.
We will then schedule ongoing weekly counselling sessions with the same counsellor, same room, same time and day. We know consistency can reassure and help bond the therapeutic relationship.
For one-to-one counselling, Avenue Counselling operates a child-led service, so the counselling will address the child or young person’s needs and goals rather than those of the parents / carers. If you feel a joint goal is more appropriate, or more family support is needed, you may want to think about family counselling or parenting consultation through our service additionally, or as your main avenue of support.
